verbage01="The central region of the United States, often called the Midwest, extends from Minnesota south into Texas. The region is known for its rich soil and productive farmlands. The central states are reponsible for feeding much of the United Stated States. The region's Corn, soybean, and wheat fields account for the majority of grains produced in the United States. The region is also known for dairy, poultry, and livestock production. To many Americans, the Midwest is known as the Breadbasket of the United States.";

verbage02="Central America is the narrow strip of land that connects the Americas. Central American contains 8 countries, Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Panama. This region has a population of over 42 million people and more than 10 different languages are spoken here, but Spanish is the primary language. Central American contains an area called the Caribbean plate which has regions of intense activity, including frequent earthquakes, occasional tsunamis, and volcanic eruptions.";

verbage03="This region of South America contains Peru, Chile, Bolivia, and the Andes mountains. The Andes Mountains are South America's longest mountain range, at over 4,400 miles long. The Andes are 300 miles wide in some parts, and have an average height of about 13,000 feet. The Andes are the highest mountain range outside Asia. They are also very rich in plants and animals. This is the most important region in the world for amphibians, and more than 600 kinds of mammals and 1,700 species of birds live here.";

South America was named in 1507 after Amerigo Vespucci, who was the first European to suggest that the Americas were not the East Indies.";

After being discovered by European whalers and Dutch sailing explorers, the eastern half of Australia was claimed by the British in 1770. In 1901 the six colonies became a federation, and the Commonwealth of Australia was formed.";

Their culture is responsible for some of the world’s greatest inventions; such as paper, the compass, gunpowder, and printing. To the east of China, across the Sea of Japan, is the island nation of Japan. This country has the world's tenth largest population, with about 128 million people. Japan is one of the world's leaders in economic power.";

The Pacific Ocean covers over 65 million square miles and accounts for one third of the Earth’s surface, thus making it the largest of all oceans. The western part of North America is home to the Rocky Mountains, often called the Rockies.
